Mike Prescott ~ Naturalist ~ Past Guide ~ Historian
Custom ADK Rustic Frames ~ Handcrafted using authentic materials designed exclusively by Mike.
For many years , Mike has enjoyed nature and the outdoors. He grew up in the summers on a lake in the St Lawrence Valley. While teaching in the Mohawk Valley he and several other teachers created an outing club for students. They paddled, hiked and camped in many areas of the Adirondack Mountains.
Eventually after moving to the Southern Adirondacks, Mike became friends with canoe designer, Pete Hornbeck. He tested many of Pete's early canoe designs.
After retiring from the NWSD, he worked with the Adirondack Loon Conservation Program and monitored several lakes for the organization. For many years Mike was a New York State licensed guide, but has retired from that now.
Mike has been an active downhill skier at Gore Mountain and has paddled many rivers, lakes and streams in the Adirondacks. One time, paddling the entire Raquette River from Blue Mountain Lake to Akwesasne on the St Lawrence River (170+ miles)
Presently, Mike researches and writes about rather obscure Adirondack themed topics and works in his shop making custom birchbark frames for photographs, maps, prints or original art.
His signature to each custom frame he creates, is a birds feather and a natural element such as a leaf and acorn.
